Party Theme Idea: Under the sea / Pool / Little Mermaid
Summer is definitely the time to have parties around water – just to keep the kids cool. Don’t fret if you don’t have a pool – you can just as well hire a waterslide for the day or buy a water sprinkling toy that you can connect to the garden hose (just make sure you warn the parents).
Party Snacks:
- Cookies cut into shell or star shapes – decorate with icing sugar to look like the real thing
- Blue punch with ice cubes in fish shapes
- Sour worms
- The cake can be a rock with a mermaid, a pond with fishies or a smiling starfish… if you have the budget and a great baker then maybe your kid could ride a whale
Party Ideas and Décor:
- Go blue!
- Hang paper sea animals from the roof
- Buy blue material that can flap in the wind – and use it as the roof of the party
Party Invite Ideas:
- Use fish or mermaid print cutouts and paste the party invite on the back.
- Use the shape of a sandal to make the invites with.
Make or Bake Something – Octopii for lunch!
Ingredients:
- Packet of chicken or beef hotdog sausages
- Mustard
- Tomato sauce
Directions:
- Cut the sausages in half almost to the halfway mark
- and then cut it again... and again - until the octopus has 8 legs.
- Now take the mustard and give it eyes.
- Use the tomato sauce to give it a smile.
- Unfold the legs and spread them to keep the head up.
Smart idea:
Make meal times a little more interesting by topping green spaghetti with an octopus or 2. Either use spinach pasta or color normal pasta with a little food coloring.
Party Theme Idea: Camping / The Great Outdoors
What little boy or adventurous girl would not want a Camping or Great Outdoors party theme for their next birthday. The best about it is that you don’t need to spend thousands to host this party and you can beg and borrow camping gear from friends and family.
Party Snacks:
- Corn on cob – cut into miniature pieces.
- Canned food already cut open with sporks (can be found at outdoor shops – it is a fork, knife and spoon combined) or normal cutlery to eat with.
- Marshmallow braai
- Bread on a stick – put raw dough on a (cleaned) stick and let the children bake it over a fire. (Keep this for older children.)
- Hot dogs or sandwiches filled with crisps and lettuce.
- Make toasted sandwiches on a braai / BBQ.
Party Ideas and Décor:
- Put lanterns up high – so the children cannot reach.
- Use empty cans to cut holes in and place candles inside. Paint the cans or leave with the original labels on.
- Use old blankets to make a tent if you don’t have.
- Give each attendee a compass to find their way around the great outdoors (in your garden)!
- Ask each attendee to bring a sleeping bag.
- Remember the Mozzie repellant!
- Use plastic mosquitoes and flies as décor.
Party Invite Ideas:
- Use animal paw print cutouts and paste the party invite on the back.
- Attach a compass to the invite scroll.
